The Clearwater Management Council

The Clearwater Management Council (CMC) is a cooperative partnership representing Clearwater, Idaho, Latah, Lewis, and Nez Perce counties, along with state, tribal, and federal agencies dedicated to protecting and managing the Clearwater River corridor.

Established through a joint-powers agreement in 1992, the CMC works to provide residents and visitors with safe, enjoyable, and sustainable recreational opportunities along the Clearwater River and its tributaries. Coordinated by the Bureau of Land Management Cottonwood Field Office, the council brings together local governments and agencies to improve public access, promote river safety, support conservation efforts, and preserve the natural beauty and cultural history of the region.

Mission Statement

Our mission is to provide residents and visitors with safe, enjoyable, and sustainable recreational experiences along the Clearwater River and its major tributaries, from Kooskia to the confluence with the Snake River.

  • Monitor and manage the environmental, economic, recreational, and social impacts of fishing and river activities.
  • Promote safe boating practices and encourage the use of licensed Idaho outfitters and guides.
  • Improve and maintain public access to river recreation areas.
  • Encourage cooperation between county, tribal, state, and federal agencies.
  • Educate the public about the Clearwater River, its fisheries, wildlife, and historical significance.
  • Create opportunities for communication, collaboration, and information sharing among stakeholders.
